Abortion Training

At Medical Students for Choice, we believe that medical students should have clinical exposure to abortion care.

MSFC has two programs to support medical students’ efforts to receive this exposure.

  • MSFC’s Reproductive Health Externship Funding Program (RHE) provides medical students with financial support for receiving clinical exposure to abortion care outside of their institution’s standard curriculum. Externs should spend at least 2 weeks in a clinic or clinics of their choice.  Accepted applicants qualify for a stipend to offset the costs associated with participating in the externship.
  • MSFC’s Clinical Abortion Observation is an opportunity for medical students to spend anywhere from 3 days up to 2 weeks in a clinical setting receiving exposure to abortion care. Financial assistance is also available for this opportunity.

In addition to these two clinic-based programs, MSFC’s Abortion Training Institute is an application-based, intensive two-day educational opportunity for medical students to learn about abortion from family planning experts in a small-group conference setting. Accepted applicants will receive full funding to attend.

All medical students who are currently enrolled and in good standing at a medical school are encouraged to apply for the Reproductive Health Externship Funding Program or the Clinical Abortion Observation.
