How to Apply

The application process for both the Clinical Abortion Observation and the Reproductive Health Externship (RHE) are identical, although there is an additional requirement for RHE participants. All RHEs must occur at a clinic that can guarantee exposure to at least 50 abortion procedures during your experience, and the host facility must attest to this fact on the confirmation form.

To help you get started, we’ve outlined the necessary steps below. We are here to help – if you have more specific questions or if you need assistance in getting started, please call us at 215-625-0800 or email [email protected].

Step 2: MSFC will contact you after receiving your application documents. Staff can help you select a host facility and/or will provide you with the contact information for potential host sites. Our Host Facility Map is a great tool for identifying a site committed to hosting MSFC students.

  • Please note that some host facilities will require additional documents and/or a background check. MSFC staff will guide you through any additional requirements.

Step 3: Contact the desired host facility to inform them of your intent to set up an externship or observation. You will work directly with the facility to finalize the dates of your externship. Please have your secured host facility complete the Host Facility Confirmation Form.

Step 4: Submit a completed Budget to MSFC Headquarters. All documents should be sent to MSFC at least one month prior to the start date of the externship.

Step 5: If accepted, you will receive an official acceptance letter, a link to our Pre-Abortion Training Survey, and any follow-up materials. You must complete the survey and return any follow-up documents before the start of your externship.

Upon acceptance into the program, your stipend will be disbursed as follows:

  • 50% at the mid-point of your externship.
  • 50% after completion of your externship, following your completion of the Post-Abortion Training Survey and submission of all relevant receipts to MSFC Headquarters.
